RMS 6th Grade Elective Selection 

Hello 5th grade Students and Families,

The following information is coming to you via Redmond Middle School. It contains important details and next steps for registering incoming 6th graders for elective classes next year at Redmond Middle School. 

Action Items:

We welcome Incoming 6th Grade Parents to attend the following events for more information about RMS.

· February 3rd: Incoming 6th Grade Informational Parent Night (6:00-7:00PM) Families of current 5th graders are encouraged to attend this informational night at Redmond Middle School. The presentation will also be posted on the RMS website. Looking forward to welcoming the Class of 2033 to our Grizzly Family!

Important Reminder:

All current 5th graders will automatically be registered at Redmond Middle School as 6th graders for the next school year if you continue to live within Redmond Middle School boundaries. No additional paperwork is required to start school at RMS next year. To select your child’s choice for an elective course, you must complete the Redmond Middle School 6th Grade Elective Registration Form by Wednesday, February 11th. All registration details, materials, and resources are provided in this message. Please use the course catalog, Parent Night, and meeting links to assist with the registration process.

6th Grade Courses - Required classes are all automatically scheduled - no need to make a selection:

           · Language Arts (full year) Required
           · Social Studies (full year) Required
           · Math (full year) Required
           · Science (full year) Required
           · 6th Grade Grizzly Prep (1 semester) Required
           · PE (1 semester) Required
          · 6th Grade Elective Wheel (full year) - choice
          · OR Music: Orchestra, Band, or Choir (full year) - choice

If you do not submit this Forms Survey by February 11th, your child will default to the 6th Grade Elective Wheel Class (4 quarter classes on rotation: Art, Foods, Stem, and Music). To request a music class like Band, Orchestra, or Choir, the Redmond Middle School 6th Grade Elective Registration Form must be submitted with your preferred choice. Students cannot have BOTH 6th grade Elective Wheel Classes AND Music classes (Band, Orchestra, Choir). Only ONE elective can fit into their schedule in 6th grade.

Sixth Grade Registration Worksheet: Please use the attached is a Sixth Grade Registration worksheet to assist with planning. This form does not need to be turned in.

Registration Timeline:

• RMS counselors will present in science classes on February 2nd to guide students through elective registration.
• Signed registration worksheets are due on February 9th in science class. Counselors will help students enter their course requests in Skyward during science class on February 9th.

As future 7th graders, students will select a full year music class OR 2 semester long electives.

Two years of a world language is a requirement for high school graduation. You may use your 8^th grade world language to meet the first year of this requirement.  

Note: WA state offers a World Language Competency test. This test is administered to students when they are in high school.
